Synopsis

Having experienced years of social unrest and societal changes, Nam pretended to be normal in everyday life. She took care of Man’s mother, a dear friend who had departed and kept a motorbike left by Man, unwilling to unpack her grief, Nam never rode on the motorbike. One night, Nam’s “grandpa” came and bade farewell to her. This mysterious encounter drove Nam to go to the mainland with her dad for her grandpa’s funeral. The visit offers Nam a glimpse of her father's true feelings, which is a sense of alienation with the home village, and also disclosed a painful past of Nam’s father. The misery connects two of the survivors, prompting Nam to reflect on herself and to confront her sorrow and remorse for the loss of Man.

 

Director biography

Graduated in City University of Hong Kong, School of Creative Media, major in cinematic art, master of cultural studies of Lingnan University. His first short film “Not Now But When” won Fresh Wave award and best film in open division in Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival 2011. His works included the withering (2020), imprisoned light (2019), in blossom (2017). His creation always focus on unfair social issues, speak out for the disadvantaged. Besides, he works on images and literature, published Living in sorrows (2022) and Against the Grain (2017), book of essays and photographs, as photography author and cover designer.
