Synopsis
It is the summer of ’99 and Janet is expecting her first child, but she already takes care of eight year old Lum Lum as a domestic helper. When Lum Lum finds out about the pregnancy, Janet asks her to keep it a secret, not yet ready to face the reality of going home to the Philippines. But as Lum Lum makes preparations for the new baby, Janet’s guilt pushes her to play along, and the lie snowballs. How will Janet come to terms with leaving one child behind for the other?
Director biography
Kristie KO is a director, screenwriter and producer. Since graduating from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, she has worked in television production in Los Angeles and London. Credits include director’s assistant on THE CROWN and writer’s assistant on
TONG WARS. Her short films, RED HOT FROG and ANCHOR BABY, have screened at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, Asians on Film Festival and Hong Kong Arthouse Film Festival. ATEH is her first short film since returning to Hong Kong, where
she was born and raised. It will premiere at the 2021 Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival.
