The Chinese Independent Film Archive (CIFA), in collaboration with the School of Modern Languages at Newcastle University, will host another Cultural Day for secondary and sixth-form pupils on 25 March 2026 in the Henry Daysh Building at Newcastle University, following the success of last year’s event.
The programme will feature screenings of three acclaimed short documentaries from the CIFA collection, followed by discussion sessions with organisers. Designed specifically for pupils aged 14 and above from schools across the North East, the event aims to introduce students to contemporary Chinese culture and society through independent documentary film.
By engaging with these films and discussions, pupils will gain new perspectives on everyday life and social change in contemporary China. The event will be particularly relevant for students interested in Modern Languages, Sociology, Film Studies, and Global Politics, offering a valuable opportunity to broaden their global and cultural awareness.
This cultural day forms part of CIFA’s ongoing commitment to promoting the study and appreciation of Chinese independent documentary and to supporting educational engagement with contemporary Chinese culture.
