CIFA is pleased to announce that we have been awarded funding from the BFI’s National Lottery Screen Heritage Fund for a new project titled Hong Kong Independent Cinema: Collecting, Archiving and Exhibiting. Running from 1 March 2025 to 30 June 2026, the project will expand the CIFA collection through the acquisition of independent films by Hong Kong filmmakers.
As part of the initiative, we will also curate a Hong Kong Independent Film UK Tour in early 2026, showcasing selected works from the new collection with a thematic focus on the migrant experience. The tour will visit five cities—Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, London, and Edinburgh—with the goal of engaging diverse local audiences and broadening the archive’s user base.
